What Digestive Enzyme Can Be Taken For Acid Reflux?

What digestive enzyme should I take for acid reflux? My Doc gave me Omeprazole but I do not want to take it. My symptoms are coughing and the feeling of a lump in my throat. I do not know what foods may be causing this. I am now on a low acid diet. The next question is the most important to me. Is there a general enzyme to take or are they all specfic? Should or could I take braggs apple cide vinager? Also I take Amour Tyhroid 30mg q d. One last thing please, I just got back from the surgon that replaced my hip and he says I have Iliotibial band syndrome and gave me Meloxicam 7.5 mg to take. I think you know by now I would rather not take this either. Is there something topically I can use along with the exercises he gave me instead? How safe is Meloxicam really to take and should I take the Amour first on empty stomach and wait how long to take the Meloxicam which says I should take with food. Thank you. I hope this is free!! Hello,
Thank you for the query and welcome to healthcare magic
I understand your concern.

Here are a few things you need to know about the mediactions you are on.
-Take your thyroid hormone before breakfast on an empty stomach
-Omeprazole should also be taken 30 minutes before breakfast, but you should give a gap of atleast 2 hours between thyroid medication and omeprazole.
-Acids in stomach are required for the absorption of thyroid, and omeprazole decrease the amount of acid in stomach.Taking both together will decrese the thyroid hormone absorption. I also recommwnd that you follow up with your doctor to see if you need a thyroid dose adjustment.
-Meloxicam is a non steroidal anti inflammatory drug which can aggrevate acidity. It is given to reduce pain and inflammation. Meloxicam should only be taken along with food.
Regarding discontinuation of Meloxicam,
I would like to add that sometimes proper management of pain and inflammation is required to undergo physical therapy. I suggest that you consult with your doctor to see if the meloxicam can be discontinued .

GERD /Acid reflux is caused due regurgitation of stomach acids into esophagus. It is best treated with PPIs like omeprazole. I do not recomment taking apple cider vinegar as it can increase the acidity of stomach. But there are few lifestyle changes that can help you with GERD
- Avoid fatty, fried and spicy food
-Do not go to bed/lay down immediately after eating
-exercise regularly, weight loss if needed
-Raise the head end of bed by using wood blocks below bed post.Using extra pillows don't work.

Hope I was able to answer your questions
