Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I m 25 years old and just married. After a month of drinking, bacholor party, pre wedding activities I notices my ankles would swell. I went to the doctor after the honeymoon and my ast and alt readings were 4x what they should be. I was told to never have a drink again. I went back for more blood work two weeks later and my levels are back to the normal range. Question: Do I have liver damage and never have a drink again? I m not over weight, I exercise everyday and besides this in great health.
I have studied your case. Swelling in leg, ankle and feet can be due to high blood pressure or congestive heart failure. This is common finding and nothing to be worried about. As you are saying that this condition is present since long time so it is not progressing. I have the following suggestions for you: 1. Get blood tests like BUN, creatinine and urea. 2. Get 2D echo and ECG. 3.Get USG Doppler of leg to see if there is any venous blockage or DVT.
After getting through these tests we will be sure about the diagnosis and then management can be started. I would not agree with your doctor that you do not need any treatment.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Iven Romic Rommstein, General Surgeon
