What Could Severe Pain In Upper Neck Indicate?

over the last 48 hours have gradually experienced severe upper neck pain - a pain never really experienced. At present seem not to have any other symptom except a possible slight ache in the legs. Taken pain tablets with no result plus hot showers. Not sure what to do ? Thanks
