Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi my baby boy based in india(born in america) is 11 months old recently he is having diarhea(5 to 3 times a day) and had given stool culture test he diagnosed up to 15 pus cells in his stool test so he was prescribed antibiotics.
Why he is finding pus cells in his stool test and is that curable?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
As a matter of fact, it is not the puss cell, but it is the white blood cells (WBC). The few WBCs if present in the feces, it is normal, and that may not need any treatment.
Passing the stool three to four times in the day in this age of 11 months could be normal, and it may not need any treatment, but care needs to be taken in diet or feeding, try to change the diet, avoid top feeding, and stop worrying.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Akhtarhusain
