What Could Puffy, Painful Chest And Abdomen After A Fall Indicate?

I fell asleep in chair by my computer Wed. night and felt out of it landing on my right side. My chest landed on my bent arm. Knocked the wind out of me and hurt while getting up but I figured I maybe just lightly bruised the chest and ribs. Pain has been horrendous trying to move, breath, cough, sneeze, etc...my whole right side hurts even down my my stomach. There's no bruising but the area feels puffy....side of chest and upper abdomen and both areas are tender. Breathiing was a little easier today but still painful. Might I have a flail chest or.......a punctured lung? And, if I go to the ER at this late stage won't the be upset with me for not coming in sooneer?

Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Yes, you should definitely go to ER now, don't afraid of being late.
You had blunt chest trauma and your symptoms are mostly due to any of the following.
1. Rib fracture
2. Pneumothorax
3. Pulmonary confusions.
4. Musculoskeletal injury.
So better to consult doctor and get done clinical examination of respiratory system and Chest x ray.
If chest x ray is normal then no need to worry for major Pulmonary disease.
Your symptoms are mostly due to musculoskeletal injury.
So apply warm water pad on affected areas.
Take painkiller and muscle relaxant drugs.
Avoid heavyweight lifting and strenuous exercise. Avoid movements causing pain. Avoid bad postures in sleep.
You can also wear chest belt to avoid minimal mobilization of affected areas.
Don't worry, you will be alright. But immediately consult ER now.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
