What Could Pain Under The Ribcage While Moving Indicate?

I noticed I had some pain under my right ribcage yesterday morning. It happened when I moved a certain way. It seemed to get worse throughout the day. Last night at midnight, I woke up in severe pain. After contemplating going to the E.R. I decided to take 400 mg Ibuprofen and I laid back down and put a heating pad on the area. It hurts when i push on it. Not on my ribcage but just below about mid way between the front of my abdomen and the side. I think I did something to the muscle or abdominal wall as I have a very physical job. But, I did not know when or how it happened. Would like some input on what may have happened?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear,

The symptoms as mentioned in your post can be attributed to:
1. Spasm of the chest muscles- aggravation of pain on making certain movements points towards this. Management will involve application of muscle relaxant gel & intake of analgesic (like Diclofenac or Ibuprofen) + Pantoprazole preparation.

2. Gastrointestinal cause- due to accumulation of gas and excess acid formation in stomach. Symptomatic relief can be obtained with intake of Proton pump inhibitors like Pantoprazole, which prevent acid formation in stomach (to be taken before meals)+ antacid gel (to be taken after meals).

However, an ECG and chest X ray can be done to rule out any Cardiovascular & Respiratory cause for the symptoms.

So, kindly consult your General Physician and start treatment as advised.
There is no need to worry, you will be fine.
Take care.
