What Could Lead A Diabetic Patient With Stents To Go In Coma?

A friend had stents put in and was in a coma when he came out of outpatient surgery. He has been in a coma over a week now. He is on ventilator now and not expected to live if they take him off of it. They just increased his oxygen. What could have gone wrong? He is diabetic and had stents before.

May be he developed a cardioembolic stroke during the procedure which is a risk associated with the procedure.
