What Could Have Caused Abdominal Abcess After Total Hysterectomy?
I had a total hysterectomy as treatment for uterine cancer. A week after the surgery I was readmitted to hospital for what was eventually diagnosed as an abdominal abcess. It was drained and I spent 2 weeks in the hospital. What would have caused this abdominal abcess? How long can it take to recover?
Development of abdominal abscess can be result of independent pathology from surgery.
In addition at an advanced age and during the post-operative period we have low immunity which makes us susceptible to any form of infections including abscess.
The other likely cause can be inadequate sterilization or resistance of bacteria to administered antibiotics during the post-operative period.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
