What Could Fluids In The Pelvic Peritoneal Cavity In The Below Pelvic Ultrasound Report Indicate?

I have recently had an Pelvic Ultrasound which came back as ...Some fluid was noted in the pelvic peritoneal cavity. This lay in the POD as well as in the RIF and the volume is slightly greater than expected. What can this mean and should I have further tests? My sister in Law who is an esteemed Nurse of many years has suggested that I have a test for Ovarian Cancer as my symptoms are vague and should rule out Major problems first. What do you think?

Hi there.
Now it would've helped greatly if you were to have given information as to your age, other illnesses and the complaints for which you got the ultrasound done in the first place.
Your sister in law is correct in that while a small amount of fluid may be normal, when it is more than expected you have to rule out other abdominal pathologies. If it is large enough to be able to draw a sample then i suggest you get it done and run a few tests on it like Cytology, Stain for bacteria, protein and sugar content etc.
Blood tests like CEA levels will be high in certain ovarian tumors and that will help.
Also along with it get a Hemogram , Renal function and liver function tests done as they can also point towards a disease if there is one or it'll help rule out problems.
