What Could Delayed, Black And Brown Periods With History Of Having PCOS Indicate?
Hi, I have PCOS. I am 43 years old. I did not have a normal period until I was 34 years old. I have always been a very obese person (highest weight was 367lbs) I'm down to 244lbs. My periods have come normal every month since February 2006 and they last 5-7 days each month. I have not been late for my period since it started to come regularly in 2007. If any change occurred since then, it might come a day or two early. This month I was almost two weeks late for my period and when it came two days ago it was almost black in color. It wasn't very much but it turned almost brown in color yesterday but it was only a drop or two. Could I possibly be pregnant? They told me if I lost a significant amount of weight that I might be able to conceive. And why would that blood look so dark?
Hi, The occurrence of such discharge could mean anything from a withdrawal bleeding owing to the hormonal imbalance common to PCOD to a missed abortion. You may get a trans-vaginal sonogram along with measurement of serum beta-hCG titre to clarify the issue apart from a complete evaluation by your consultant. It is true that chances of spontaneous correction and thereby natural conception improve drastically in PCOD with reduction in weight by at least 5% and regular exercise. If pregnancy is excluded, you should be evaluated for hormonal status and necessary treatment ensued. Hope this helps.
