What Could Cause Lump Between Labia Majora And Minora?

I recently found a smaller than pea sized lump under the skin between my labia majora and labia minora. It s so small it can be seen, only felt. It s slightly squishy feeling, not hard and it s tender to touch, more like the way a pimple under the skin feels on your face. Pretty much identical. There is only one and I noticed from sitting on my foot and bumping it feeling tender and then showerd and noticed the lump. It s been about 4 days and its sill there only yesterday, the area around the vaginal opening and anus became red and irritated. The lump is toward the bottom in that area as well. It s not unbearable or itchy really just irritated is all I can think of. I ve never had anything like this lump that I know about. But I had had redness or irritation from time to time. I am really worried wondering if it could be hsv. About 4 year ago I started being sexually active with a bf. we practiced oral and I had no idea that he was a person prone to cold sores. Until about a year later. We were off and on and long distance so I didn t see him much. But I got redness and severe itching around my anal cavity around then. So I told my doctor about it, even bringing up the possible exposure but he said not to worry. That was about 3 years ago and since then I ve had occasional redness or irritation in areas but not often. Until now, and this is the first bump of any kind. Also I have not had sex at all with anyone for about 2 years and never had sec without condoms and I have been examined since the last time I was sexually active. So if it is something sexual it has to be from years ago, just now showing up. I have also had a bacterial vaginal infection twice since I was active with this guy and can t figure out why I would be getting them and then read hsv can cause it so then inreally worried. We never had any mouth to genial contact while a sore was present, so it had to have been transferred while it was just shedding if it is, and I have had no symptoms almost at all... Seems strange but I ve also never had a cold sore so could have been more susceptible. Please help!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Small bumps around your labia could be due to minor infections or cysts. Genital warts are also a possibility. A direct clinical examination is required to identify the cause or you can get back to us with pictures of the lesions if possible. Infections will require an antibiotic course for 5 days. Maintenance of vaginal hygiene is also essential.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Saranya Ramadoss, General & Family Physician
