What Could Cause Itchiness And White Spots On The Face?

Hi. Last month i visited one beach, we stayed in sun for long hours.. But after 1 week when i returned i found white spots on my face. Earlier there was some kind itching n irritation also but then i consulted Dr. n he advised to apply TOPCORT ointment and advised to take 1 capsule of Albendazole. But its didnt work much, except i am feeling itching on those spots anymire.. But White spots are still there, infact it has increased some more. Its really not looking good. I know its because of sun erruption. Please advise me what should i do to get rid of these white spots.

Hi,

At this point, if the current treatment you are taking is not giving effect, then, I suggest to discuss with your dermatologist to do the microscopical examination of skin scraping (with KOH 10%) to exclude fungal infection of the skin.

If fungal infection is diagnosed, I usually prescribe Terbinafin 250 mg, 1 tabled/daily for at least 2 weeks. While locally, I usually prescribe a combination of Terbinafin 1% cream with Hydrocortisone 0.1% cream for at least 2 weeks.

If no fungal infection, then, it is related other skin conditions, which might need UV or other treatment options.

Hope it was of help!

Hi
Thank you for asking HCM
Your problem is most likely photodermatitis. Steroid creams for local application and some time time systemic steroid therapy also given for short duration for some cases.Do limit the amount of limes, celery, carrots, and figs in your diet, because these contain natural psoralens (sun sensitizers).Do avoid PABA- and musk-containing skin products. It is better to have a consultation with dermatologist.
Let me know if you have any further query.
Have a nice day.
