What Could Cause Intermittent Pain In The Collarbone?

I have had a painful collarbone for about 2 months now but the pain comes and goes daily. Some days none, some days lots. I have a good range of movement but it appears slightly swollen and when the pain comes it’s like a striking pain. I know it’s not the muscle as when I touch around it it doesn’t hurt. But when I touch the bone theirs slight pain. I’ve put off going to the doctors as I think maybe it will heal naturally. What could this be?

Hello,

You are suffering from painful collarbone since 2 months, its intermittent. There is also swelling. Intermittent collarbone pain is commonly due to sleeping on the same side for a prolonged period, the cause can be pinched nerve, tendinitis, sprain or stress, etc.

Other medical conditions that can cause similar symptoms are Osteoarthritis, arthritis, ac joint separation, fractured collarbone, etc. You are suggested to get it clinically examined by a GP/Orthopedics and get X-ray, CT, bone scan (to see bone damage), and required blood tests done to confirm osteoarthritis or any other pathology that is causing you discomfort.

Collarbone pain is usually caused by an injury, such as a fracture or joint separation. Your treatment will depend on the pathology detected. In the mean time, you can take NSAIDS, one stat after taking food to get relief from pain and inflammation.

You are advised to take food rich in magnesium and calcium, include anti inflammatory food in your regular diet like almonds, turmeric, etc. Take probiotics for better bone support. Get connected to a Physical therapist. Stay away from addictions if any.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Hello

Your symptoms could be related to local arthritis in the collarbone. For this reason, I would recommend taking Naproxen for a couple of weeks. A bone supplement with vitamin D and calcium will help too.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
