What could cause cough and wheezing?

I take care of my mother who has stage IV lung cancer. My 3 year old son woke up in the middle of the night with a croupy cough and very tight wheezing. His pediatrician said that based on my description, he most likely has the croup. If I go to take care of my mother for an hour, could I be a carrier? Should I stay away from her?

Hi,

No, your mother is suffering from lung cancer. Your child is having infection with croup because of virus. It is not spread from your mother.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Prasanna Lakshmi, Pediatrician
