What Could Bleeding While On Implant With Citalopram Intake Indicate?

Hi, I have been on Citalopram since Dec and I am coming up to the end of my third implant (sept). In April I came on my period (not un-usual for me to come on nearing the end the implant) and was on for about 10 days. I was then off for a week then on for a week then off for a week then on for 5 days and then off for two weeks. This was unusual for me both on and off the implant and when I started to feel like I was coming on again (bloating, feeling icky etc.) I went to my Drs and they put me on Cerazette to stop the bleeding. I am now off that and back to normal (no periods) but still keep on feeling like I am about to come on all the time. I know it is unlikely... but could the unusual bleeding have been from the citalapram affecting the implant and making it work less effectively? Could I be pregnant ?

Hi,

It is not related to Citalopram.

As the first line of management, you can take drugs like Tranexamic Acid to control bleeding.

If bleeding persists better to consult a gynecologist and get evaluated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Shinas Hussain,
