What Could Be The Reason For Bleeding From Anus After Bowel Discharge With Burning Sensation?

hello Doctor, I have bleeding from anus after bowel discharge. Stool is normal in color(not in dark or red color) and no fowl smell. After bowel is discharged there is some 3-4 drops of blood and/or sometimes blood stains on the stool towards the end of stool. This happens to me for once in a month or two when i have more cheese and pizzas(as i feel so). It is not painful but I have burning sensation and feel like the stool is cutting at the end of the anus. I usually drink more water and lassi/butter milk which relieves me the very next day. But this is for the first time i had this situation for 3 days in a row. I live in USA so i do not know any names of laxatives or medicines. Can you please help me with my situation?

Hello,
I have gone through your query and understand your concern.
You are suffering from anal fissure.
That is why you have burning and cutting sensation while passing stools and You notice blood after you pass faeces.
Anal fissure are due to passing large or hard faeces when you are constipated. The rim of the anus may stretch and tear slightly. Spasm (tightening) of the muscle around the anus (the sphincter) may play a part in causing the tear, or in slowing down the healing process.
These fissure heals within 1-2 weeks or so, just like any other small cut of the skin. Some fissures take longer to heal.
This can be easily treated and avoided by adopting following measures
1. Take warm baths- sit in a tub of warm water for 20 minutes twice daily
2. Apply anesthetic ointment like lignocaine locally in anus to get off the burning sensation.
3. Wash the anus carefully with water after you go to the toilet. Dry gently. Do not use soap whilst it is sore as it may irritate.
4. Eat plenty of fiber containing diet like green vegetables, fruits etc.
5. Drink plenty of water
6. If a high-fibre diet is not helping you can take fibre supplements (bulking agents) such as ispaghula, methylcellulose, bran or sterculia. You can buy these at pharmacies or get them on prescription.
7. Don't ignore the feeling of needing the toilet to pass faeces. Some people suppress this feeling and put off going to the toilet until later. This may result in bigger and harder faeces forming that are more difficult to pass later.
8. Avoid the medicines that cause constipation like codeine.

Hope this helps.
Please write back for further queries.
Wishing you good health.
