What Could Be The Painful Lump Below The Mole?

My wife has a brown mole on her face. The past couple of days she has been saying that it hurts when she pushes on it. She feels like there is a small bump developing underneath it. The mole is not bleeding or oozing anything. What could this be? Thanks

Hello and welcome to HCM,

Hyperpigmented moles on any part of body can be due to a number of conditions varying from non-neoplastic to benign to malignant.
Brown colored lesion suggests that the lesion is due to proliferation of melanocytes.
Melanocytes are cells present in basal layer of skin and is responsible for pigmentation of the lesion.
Painful lesions suggest a non-neoplastic or benign lesion.
A clinical assessment of the lesion is required.
A biopsy of the lesion may be required to final diagnosis of the lesion.
In case of non-neoplastic or a benign lesion, excision biopsy will be curative.
In excisional biopsy the complete lesion is excised for microscopic examination.
