My left ankle is always stiff my foot aches when I am in bed.But suddenly when I put weight on it I had terrible sharp pain which lasted until I was able to lay down. Today it feels like any minute I will get that sharp pain. What would cause that to suddenly happen?

Hello there I have read through your question and would like to tell you that stiffness and pain in foot can be caused by a few conditions like gout, osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis. I would advise you to get the following investigations done to rule out the above conditions 1. Seum uric acid 2.:RA factor 3. ESR and CRP 4. X Ray ankle joint. Meanwhile you should start taking calcium supplements to prevent further joint degeneration. Take an antiinflammatory like naproxen to reduce pain. I hope that answers your question. If you have any further questions please feel free to write. Thank you for choosing healthcare magic.
