What Could Be The Cause Of Fever, Sore Throat?

Hi, My son has had a fever and sore throat for two days now. It started with a lower fever and sore throat. I took him to the doctor for a throat culture the next day. The initial test was negative. The next day he suffered from a very high fever in the afternoon of 104.8 and his throat developed red spots on his upper palette. He is having difficulty eating due to the pain his tonsils are in even with Motrin. Do you think this is viral or is there still a chance it could be strep?

Thanks for the query.
As you said that there is pain with high grde fever it might be infective in etiology.
You can repeat the throat swab culture and sensitivity and give antibiotics accordingly.
If there are reddish, angry looking tonsil with whitish exudates it might have bacterial/streptococcal etiology.
Hope i helped you.
