What Could Be The Cause For Sudden Spikes In Blood Pressure?

Hi Doc Im am asking this in reference to a 31 Yr old Female that in the last 6 days is experiencing sudden spikes in blood pressure at random times and is also experiencing Nausea, Dizziness and slight blurred vision. Patient also states that its the same feeling as when she is suddenly scared or frightened and with some tightness in chest and slight discomfort from the same... her normal at rest BP is 125/60 lately she is having readings of 168/96, 165/78, 158/94 and then after a few moments 10 mins or so it drops back to 124/68...

I am so sorry to hear about this sudden spike in blood pressure. An increased in blood pressure when we are frightened is a normal adaptation of the body to face challenges. These numbers are moderate and not suggestive of conditions like pheochromocytoma which is the must rule out disease in patients with episodic spike in blood pressure These symptoms are more suggestive of anxiety disorder or panic attacks. if they should persist, please get evaluated by a primary care physician or psychiatrist.
