What could be the cause for getting the feeling of numbness in the left side of the chest and left portion of the body ?

Hi i m 20 years old, male. I ve been sick about 8 months now and have seen many specialists including two pulminologists, an endocrinologist , infectious diseases specialist, and an neurologist . No one seems to have a diagnosis, they were laying their cards on the Sarcoid table but the ACE test results apparently threw that out the window. I ve recently started getting a new symptom that i ve never had before in my life. It feels like the left side of my chest is asleep, like ones leg or arm falls asleep from laying in the wrong position, but this has been ongoing for three days now. I ve had a history of pneumonia but have recently had chest x-rays which seem to rule that out. I do sometimes have trouble breathing from the feeling, but apparently my oxygen levels are fine. Any ideas? Thanks to any and all that offer advice!

Hi there,
since all the tests the doctors could think of have yielded no positive findings, I suggest you let a psychiatrist also evaluate you. May be he could come out with some positive findings.

What causes full body numbness like this? Almost 3 weeks ago I felt an odd sensation on my left shoulder and after poking it a little I realized it was numb. It felt weird but didn t affect my day. The next day it was still there with no change until about 8:00pm where it started radiating from the patch on my shoulder, feeling like ice water was being poured over me. My entire left side was numb from head to toe, mouth and tongue included. Went to an ER and they ruled out stroke. But my whole body was going numb still. My reflexes and vision and strength are fine. The numbness gets worse after I fall asleep at night and wakes me frequently. But during the day it s slowly getting worse, it s my entire body, head to toe, my mouth and tongue and throat as well. I could still feel light touch when this started but the feeling has been getting less and less and I almost cannot feel anything at all. I keep having neck pain, some back pain and my shoulder hurts sometimes where the numbness started. I am unable to chew as my tongue and gums and mouth are all numb so I ve had to live off liquids and soft foods for the past few weeks. Had bloodwork done a few times and it came back normal. I ve seen multiple doctors and they can t figure it out. I m going to a neurology clinic in a week but I m worried I will keep getting worse and that I might be getting more symptoms by then. For a few days now I have felt like I m burning inside, like sitting under a heat lamp even though my skin is cool. And my fingers and toes have been involuntarily twitching occasionally. I m terrified that this will continue to get worse until I m paralyzed or it becomes permanent or something! I m only 17, and I ve been otherwise very healthy. What could be wrong? Small fibre peripheral neuropathy is the closest neurological problem I have found that match my symptoms even slightly but I don t want to just self diagnose from the internet.

Many symptoms over 3 years, MRI in 2008 was clear but could I still have brain tumour Hello, please help, 42 year old male. About 3 years ago, I started having numbness in my left arm and hand that would wake me up in the middle of the night. My first thought was a possible heart problem, and although my cholestorol is borderline high, the doctors said there was no immediate threat as long as I made changes to my diet. Over the following 3 years, these numbness episodes came and went. In March 2008, I had an MRI on my head and neck and no problems were found. The doctor thought it might be something to do with a nerve in my neck, but a series of x rays and tests have founf nothing there. In September this year, the episodes became more frequent and more severe - both arms and hands crippled when waking up in the middle of the night, taking several seconds to shake them back into life. I started having pains and a squeezing sensation in the sides of my chest, palpatations, and severe pains in my shoulder blades. During the day, my shoulder blades and arms would often ache. More heart tests were done, but again, nothing found, ECGs etc. Just more advice to watch my diet. December 3rd this year, I started having headaches. These would be all over my head, sometimes on the top, sometimes at the back, the sides, even the base of the skull. I also started having shooting pains in the right side of my head during the day, that last a second or so. And I kept waking up with numbness in both arms and now also leg cramps. 2 nights ago, I awoke at 3.30am with a terrible headache, it felt the whole front of my face was throbbing. I took an ibuprofen tablet to calm it down, but I had a headache (mainly at the back of my head) all day yesterday. This morning was worse than ever. I couldn t get to sleep, every time I lay down the headache would get worse, and also, I d feel twitching sensation in my right leg and arm, not like a fit, just one twitch each time I felt myself dozing off, to wake me up. And it felt like my whole body was throbbing. I still feel achey now, at the base of my skull. I m also suffering pain behind my eyes, particularly my right eye, and floating shapes when I look at a white screen or wall, or even a white cloudy sky or snow. The Doctor just says I need my eyes testing, I may need new glasses, as I use PCs and screens for work 10 hours a day. This started the same day as the headaches. Doctors say no, this isn t a brain tumour , and want to do more x-rays on my neck, because they say I have bad posture. But everything I read online suggests symptoms of brain tumour. This week I have started feeling nauseous, have missed evening meal 4 times in 7 nights because I just can t face food. My problem is this, if I had mild forms of this arm paralysis 3 years ago, and an MRI showed no tumours, could the worsening of this, and further symptoms, mean that there was something that they missed, which has now grown too big to ignore?

Here are the symptoms I have had/have been having: Around time of initial appointment with Dr. Caulkins (over two weeks ago) numb spot in back of head. Left eye stabbing pain, severe headache (for me atypical migraine does NOT include actual headache). Progressive numbness/tingling to pins and needles feeling. Started in left hand and back of head and face. Moved to right hand, feet. It is not always in the same place but consistently in my hands and back of head. Also has been in or is in hands, arms, feet, legs, back, chest, lips, face, back of head, top of head, never in stomach/core of body. Pain in finger tips, pain in toes, pain in lips, comes and goes inconsistent Several episodes where holding glass of water and feels like it weighs over 25lbs After working out the tingling, numbness is much much worse Warm water sort of takes it away and then after the warm water it increases sharply Trouble breathing, inhale not exactly painful maybe tight sensation hard to explain but can make me cough also not consistnet chest pain last two days comes and goes Light sensitive at times Visual issue worse again comes and goes but worse now Dizzy at times waking up with room not spinning full but skipping Incident bouncing with son on yoga ball stood up walked to another room and disoriented/dizzy walked into wall almost fell over had to sit down visual issues odd appearance too room hard to explain appearance Light headed fatigue Weighted limbs at times, like not attached to body or heavy hard to explain sensation Fells like body pulling to one side or other especially in mornings on a few occasions off balance like again sensation hard to explain unsteady on feet Headached almost constant for last few weeks almost like pressure in head with the tingling now I would like to know which of the following you think is most likely and if this require an ER visit due to the chest/breath thing. I have an appointment with a GP monday and a neurologist appointment to be schedule high priority. THey have rules out diabetes, MRI was clear, metabolic panel fine, blood work fine, cholesterol is fine, thyroid fine: Which of these do you think: 1)      Lyme- tick bite this would be late stage it was when steven was small on my head a.     Lyme myopericarditis can cause chest discomfort and difficulty breathing- can you have this late stage? yes 2)     Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy- difficulty breathing but not the same type of difficulty as mine 3)     Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (Lupus) (no rash?? Have raynauds: breathing/cough fits 4)     Sjögren s Syndrome: DR SKIDD THOUGHT THIS raynauds dry eyes- breathing maybe pericaridits really?? Is worse when I breath deep unsure about position change a.     Polymyositis caused by sjogrens- difficulty breath…pulmonary involvement in primary Sjögren’s syndrome is usually mild and very slowly progressive (seems like doesn’t fit!!!) 5)     Multifocal Motor Neuropathy (MNN)- rare to cause issue breathing IS THIS CORRECT?? 6)     Amyloidosis a.     Can cause breathing issue but mine is not worse lying down more like worse leaning forward 7)     POEMS Syndrome (very rare unlikely)- not this rules this out cough breathing issue not likely

Hi,

I am 19 year old caucasin female, 68inches, 161 lbs. In the last two years I have gotten sick often and think there has to be a conncetion between some of it. I am a college student from poverty level familys so I don't really have insuracne to get testing done.

In Nov 2009 (1.5 years ago) I got pneumonia, Jan 2010, an appendicitis, diagnosed with March 2010 H. pylori. In June I went to Arizona and California I did not tan at all. I went for a walk with a Caribbean, African and Native American Friend. They all got much darker but I didn't even though I didn't use sunscreen. July 2010, bad sinus infection, concussion (injury caused). Aug stomach virus? In Sept blood work was done and I was extremely Vit D deficient. So started taking Vit D and a Multi Vit. In Sept they diagnosed me with a kidney infection

Since November 2010, I have had colitis. There is pretty regularly blood in my stool which is normal texture. There is colon and abdominal pain associated with this. After an excretion it is worse. Especially during my periods the pain seems to be worse. I am often naseua or at least lack an appetite.

I am not anemic, C. Diff, parasites and an inflammatory blood test were negative. They suggested I tried going gluten free but it didnt seem to help

Since February Ive been getting chills, night sweats and occasionally fevers.

In March I fainted. We were talking about phlebotomy but Ive always found blood intersting. The next few days I know my bp was low like 95/60.

In april I started having heart palpations. My resting heart rate would range 120-58 but typically 100+. My bp range anywhere 144/103 to 120/56 to 112/82. My ekg look fine

The beginning of May my urine would be sometimes a burnt color but then an hour later it may be clear or sometimes it would be a greenish color. I typically drink 2 L of water per day. my eating habits havent changed. Three weeks later, I started getting intermediate flank pain. There was blood in the urine but everything else was fine. The doctors are assuming I have kidney stones.

I am waiting to hear from a free/probono specialist to have a colonoscopy done to hopefully determine the colitis source. But ive been waiting since march.

If you could think of anything that might possibly help me figure out what the heck is wrong with me I would be grateful.

Thanks have a great day!

Hello
My mom has lung cancer and she is 46 years old.
Here's her medical history:
Left breast cancer (03.11.09); T1c(1-2cm) N0 (0/4nodes) Grade II IDC ER+/PR=HER2 (2+on IHC). She completed 6 cycles of adjuvant FAC chemotherapy followed by 60Gy/30fr adjuvant RT completed 05.0810. She was also started on Tamoxifen.
She developed rectal bleeding in February 2010. Colonoscopy in July 2010 showed a stenosing tumour extending from 10-18cm from the anal verge. Biopsy revealed a moderately differentiated adenocarcinoma and pelvic MRI suggested this to be a T3N2 lesion. She was started on Oxaliplatin, capecitabine , bevacizumab. She was admitted in the hospital due to complains of weakness, hypotension and bloody diarrhoea. After it was treated she underwent surgery and palliative colostomy without resection of the colonic primary because it was very adherent to the intra abdominal structures and the surgeon did not want to risk major exploration and dissection in the presence of peritonitis secondary to a colonic perforation. After post operative recovery she had been suffering from peripheral neuropathy and still is. However, she has found relief with TENS.
PET/CT scan showed bilateral pleural based metastatic lesions and a possible left lower lung parenchymal deposit also. the primary lesion did not show increased FDG uptake, possibly secondary to having its blood supply cut off by the surgeon. She was also diagnosed with multiple filling defects in the right lung on CTPA and received therapeutic low molecular weight heparin. She has a clot in her lung vessel for which she gets clexane injections everyday. She had pleural effusions aspirated three times since the start of May 2011, from the right and left side. She got a Groshong central venous catheter and started her chemotherapy (Ondansetron, dexamethasone, atropine, irinotecan). She completed 1 cycle of her chemotherapy. The chemotherapy was discontinued because of a severe infection due to the Groshong line. She was started on antibiotics but the catheter was ultimately removed. After the infection settled and she recovered a little of her strength, she was misdiagnosed with passive pneumonia and was given Tazocin. It was just recently diagnosed as loculated pleural effusion. She also has a collapsed lower right lobe. She had the effusions aspirated 3 times, one time every day.The lobe has shown improvement. She is now complaining of chest pain, pressure on the chest and extreme shortness of breath. She has been on oxygen for about a week now and finds it difficult and tiring to breath without the oxygen mask. The lung saturation however is within acceptable parameters so i dont understand why she finds it difficult to breath without the oxygen. It has gotten so bad that she's unable to talk properly and can hardly complete a sentence without taking breaks. Yesterday night her chest pain got so bad they had to give her morphine which took quite a lot of time to wear off and she felt extremely lethargic. She is complaining of palpitations and says her heart skips beats(for which she was given Metoprolol Tartrate) but no significant improvement is noted. But the doctor says her heart is doing fine, so im really confused. She also feels a tingling sensation around her lips, head and limbs quite frequently and keeps getting these tiny jolts every now and then. What do you suggest we do about that? Overall, she feels extremely weak and is drowsy and lethargic most of the times and im getting really worried because she is showing no signs of improvement. Should she start getting her chemotherapy even though she's really weak? and can you please tell me what to do about her breathing and lethargy?
