What Complications Can Arise On Missing The Insulin Dose?
My dad has gone on vacation and forgot his insulin, insurance wouldn t pay for a script to be sent to him. He has missed 5-6 injections. He gives himself injections every night. I m not with him right now he is in Florida I m in Ohio. I just need to know what complications he can have for missing all these injections.
Hey, Thanks for writing. Insulin simply keeps blood sugar level under control. Insulin injections are prescribed than blood sugar are high and keeps fluctuating. If he missed the injections than it will result in hyperglycemia and if sugar level reaches to a critical level than it may result ib diabetic keto acidosis which can be life threatening and can be treated only in ICU. I suggest you to ask him to have injections from any practising nurse or an ER. THANKS Write back for follow up.
