What Chance Is There For Urine Test To Be A False Positive?
hello i went to my doctor for a cold on monday, before i received meds i told my doctor i was a week late on my period, he did a urine pregnancy test which was positive so he sent me to obgyn. i got an appointment with obgyn for friday where they did another urine test which was also positive, doctor calculates 6 weeks but did an ultrasound and nothing showed, that same day they drew blood and asked for me to return monday for more blood draw. what can be going on? what chance is there of it being a false positive?
The urine tests detect presence of HCG in the urine and Two positive tests do confirm a pregnancy. The ultrasound may not show anything in: very early pregnancy, or abnormal pregnancy. In such a case I would suggest a Blood HCG test and repeat the ultrasound in 1-2 weeks, for visualization of an intra-uterine gestational sac & fetal pole, and also rule out an ectopic pregnancy.
Do not worry, a single ultrasound is never usually confirmatory of something wrong, especially this early. All the best.
