What Chance For Skin Cancer With Melanoma?

10 years ago I got sun poisoning from second degree sunburns. I just found out last year Melanoma runs in my family on my father's side. He had it as did his mother. I'm extremely fair-skinned and burn easily. What is my susceptibility to skin cancer?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

For sure the genetics play the huge role in the cancer ,but that doesn't mean that you will develop it. You should have control to the dermatologist to be sure that you have not any risk for developing melanoma in the future.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
