Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am 39 yrs old a female and for the last month or so my right ankle and foot swells up it don t hurt it is squashy I have tryed ace wraps foot soaks and proping it up. It don t swell so bad I can t put on shoes and most of the time it don t hurt. What should I do
As your age is close to 40 I would like to ask about your menstruation. Is it normal or is it in the stage of menopause. Due to the hormonal changes, a female will have some sort of swelling in the ankles. As it swells in eight ankles I suspect more of the dysfunction in the venous return. As this is the most common area to be first affected.
Try doing regular exercise which includes aerobics, weight bearing and pilates. This should help improve the cardiac function and balance the hormones of the body.
In my clinical practice of over 12 years, most females complain this and after shedding a big money behind the lab tests nothing comes out except the vitamin D and calcium deficits. With exercise and simple medicine, they respond well.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
