Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My tongue is white all the time. My Dr prescribed Nyostatin X2 then Dyflucan. But no change. My Allergy Dr said he didn't think it was fungal. But he didn't give me any other answer. I am healthy other wise and take probiotics. What is causing my tongue to be white and what can I do about it? By the way, the white on my tongue does not brush off.
Thanks for your query . There can be many reasons for white tongue like poor oral hygiene , dehydration , mouth breathing or geographic tongue . Oral thrush is one of the commenest cause but in your case as doctor already mentioned it is not fungal so it is mainly due to poor oral cavity hygiene.
I would suggest you to :-
- Maintain proper oral hygiene by brushing and flossing daily.
- Do antiseptic mouthwash rinses (listrine) .
- Do warm saline rinses and betadine gargles.
Consult oral pathologist for proper examination, to scrap white tissue attached to mucosa and get it biopsied to find out exact cause . Doctor may prescribe antibiotics , artificial saliva substitute or recommend CPAP machine for night .
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
