What Causes White Raised Round Patches On The Tongue?

I HAVE GERD AND FOR ALMOST 2 MONTHS NOW I HAVE NOTICED WHITE COAT OVER MY ENTIRE TONGUE WITH OPEN SORES AND SLIGHT BLEEDING WHICH GOT BETTER BUT NOW I HAVE RING SHAPED PATTERN ON MY TONGUE , white, raised patches of tissues. OTHER UNCOVERED PART OF MY TONGUE IS RED AND IT LOOKS swollen, tender patches of tissues. NOT THE TIP OF MY TONGUE LOOKS LIKE IT WAS CHIPPED AWAY.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that white coating over the tongue along with sores and bleeding can be due to aggressive form of yeast infection known as Oral Thrush..
Small amounts of yeast is normally present over tongue but when the count increases beyond normal limits it produces infection leading to the symptoms of white coating, inflamed mucosa and sores with pain..

At present the ring shaped pattern with white raised patches of tissues seems to be formation of ulcers on tongue that can be either due to infection or can be due to acid reflux causing chemical trauma to the mucosa and leading to ulceration..

Chipping of the tongue tip is also due to sloughing of the mucosal layer secondary to inflammation..

You need to consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like microscopic examination of scrapings from tongue surface can help in ruling out the exact nature of te ulceration..

As of now you can start supportive therapy to relieve the symptoms like:
1. Gargle with numbing mouthwash containing Lignocaine to relieve pain..
2. Take a Vitamin B complex tablet daily..
3.Suck ice and do cool water rinses.
4.Gargle with warm saline solution.
5. Take a soft diet and avoid spicy and hard foods.
6. Take anti inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen to reduce pain and redness.

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
