What Causes White Patches On The Face?

Hi. My son has developed white patches on his face in the last couple of months. He is nine; average height and weight. Could this be a skin infection or maybe a reaction to sunscreens he has been wearing? It has not changed the texture and feel of his skin in the areas affected.

Hello and welcome to healthcaremagic

In children white patches on face is commonly due to Pityriasis Alba, the underlying cause being dry skin.

Atopics commonly have them on there face.

However, vitiligo needs to be rules out on physical examination by a dermatologist.

Application of a good moisturizer on the whole of face once or twice daily followed by application of a mild topical steroid e.g hydrocortisone Or a topical immunomodulator e.g tacrolimus, twice daily for a months results in considerably lightening of the patches of Pityriasis Alba.
