Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have swollen tonsils that have white rings on them but they don't hurt to bad just a little soar, I was just given an antibiotic a couple weeks ago and finished the prescription a week ago but my throat never stopped being swollen. What should I do?
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain it seems that white spots on tonsils along with sore throat seems to be due to Follicular Tonsillitis and the white rings seems to be pus pockets secondary air bacterial infection.. As the infection is not completely resolved you need to consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and a throat swab culture can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly.. You can be advised to take another course of antibiotics, anti inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen, do warm saline gargles and steam inhalation.. Suck throat lozenges and use a humidifier in your room.. Avoid spicy, hard and chilled foods.. Gargle with antiseptic mouthwash..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
