What Causes Weight Loss, Fever And Chills In An Elderly Person?

I am a 62 yr. old healthy male recently experiencing some weight loss and fever and chills over the past 2 weeks. Saw my Dr. just before that & had pneumonia vaccine. My appetite has been off and energy level down. The only thing my physical from 6 mos. ago showed was I was low on vitamin D so I ve been taking vit. D. I was a light smoker for many yrs. but recently quit. Lung X-Ray showed no problems & will be having a CT scan in future. The fever and chills keeps re-occurring then I m good for a day or so then it s back. Any ideas?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I think you may need to check your thyroid gland function. Probably you need to check hormone levels T3, T4 and TSH. Hyperthyroidism due to thyroiditis is possible.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Olgeta Xhufka, General & Family Physician
