Hello,
Thank you for your question. Ginet is used to treat women with acne, hair loss or increased growth of facial and body hair if these conditions are the result of over-production of male type hormones called
androgens. Ginet contains two substances that act against the androgen,
cyproterone acetate and
ethinylestradiol. As well as being an antiadrogen, syproterone acetate acts like the female sex hormone progestogen, and when combined with an estrogen (as in GINET, with ethinylesteriol), is an oral
contraceptive for women being treated for androgen- dependent symptoms, hoever, Ginet is not recommended in women solely for
contraception.
Ginet make you weight gain because it contain a combination of hormone. In some susceptible ladies, it can be gain weight. Because
progesterone in the combined pill reduces their ability to lose weight. While the hormone does have an effect on fat cell, making them larger but not increasing their numbers. Its more that women can retain more fluid, giving the feeling of weight gain, particularly in the breasts, hips and thighs. But different types of pill have a different balance of estrogen and progesterone, so switching to a more progesterone-dominant type can sometimes help. Progesterone boost
metabolism by increases your metabolic rate, causing your body temperature to rise, increasing your appetite and energy levels. So it make you increase appetite when you eat more your body weight also increase.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Best regards,
Dr. Heang Chan Raksmey, General and Family Physician.
