Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Weeping Edema In The Legs While Suffering From Bone Cancer?
My husband has diabetes, atrial fibrillation and bone cancer. His legs have been weeping for months, the doctor can do nothing to stop the weeping. His bandages are changed every other day by nurses and by myself on other days and once or twice during each day. He has compression bandages on ut, elevates it some times etc but nothing stops the weeping. It looks like this is a common problem with many people and no answers.
It probably isn't fixable. Edema occurs when there is more pressure forcing fluid out of veins than pulling it back in. There are small vessels called lymphatics through which fluid seeps back OUT of the legs and INTO the circulation. They are pumped by muscle movement and position. They are often blocked by cancer. Also, more fluid goes out if there is not a lot in the blood vessels to hold fluid in. Lower serum protein and lower blood counts hold less fluid. These are all almost certain to occur in cancer and are not correctable.
