What Causes Watery Stools?

Since the first week in April, I have experienced watery stools. The pattern is as follows: approximately one cup of water, followed by appox. a half cup of runny, yellowish stool, followed by expelled gas. The frequency seems to be between 2 to 4 hour intervals but not consistent during my waking hours. I sleep fine. I have not changed my daily diet or routine. I have been taking a multi-vitimin(centrum), 1000 iu vitimin D, and a baby asprin for several years. There is no pain. I had a routine colonoscopy on 21 April with normal result. The color of my stools most recently have been a normal, brownish with varying degrees of liquidity.

Hello,

You seem to be experiencing what is known as Microscopic Colitis, which is a form of inflammatory bowl disease, which manifests with painless prolonged diarrhea.
The causes are unknown, however it is thought to be caused or triggered by the use of non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, such as aspirin or ibuprofen. A viral cause is not excluded either.
This condition cannot be diagnosed by the naked eye (i.e. colonoscopy), but by biopsy (microscopic analysis).
It usually resolves on its own, but make sure you you stop taking the aspirin and talk to your doctor if the aspirin was recommended by them, so they could prescribe the best alternative. Also, do not forget that rehydration and a healthy diet are very important.

All the best
