What Causes Waking Up Due To Dreams While Sleeping?

The last four nights I've woken up several times during dreams, probably every time I'm in the REM stage.

They're not usually bad dreams, and I'm not paralyzed when I awake. I don't like waking up though and I've been more tired in the morning.

What's going on? Is there anything I can do?

Hello,
Before I speak about the stage of sleep disturbance, i would like to reflect upon your problem by saying that it appears to be a recent onset of insomnia, mostly during the middle of the sleep duration. When presented with such a complaint, we usually try to find a possible underlying reason for the same, most often a stress factor, related to the person's work, personal life or a significant change in routine.
A convenient way to help this, is to follow the principles of 'sleep hygiene' i.e. ensuring the lifestyle modification which sets the body in an appropriate circadian rhythm. It entails following a somewhat regular routine, moderate exercise, relaxation time, avoiding stimulating products (coffee, etc) in the evenings and more such tips.
You can read more of it on http://www.med.umich.edu/painresearch/patients/Sleep.pdf

In addition, whether the dreams disrupt in REM phase or not, does not make an implication on the treatment. If above method does not help, we can think of short term medication (benzodiazepines with long a half life) or other class of drug molecules which set the body's sleep clock (eg. agomelatine). This regimen however, needs to be started only under supervision of a clinician, who can see you regularly.

Hope this helped you understand your problem, happy help for any more questions.
