What Causes Vomiting Up Of Blood?

Yesterday, my 25 yr old son vomitted some blood after eating. The night before he had consumed quite a bit of alcohol, at least a pint of whiskey. This isn t a daily thing, but it is common for a weekend. Today he said he was sitting and started to feel dizzy or a little faint. When he stood up, it seemed to go away. He said his tongue also felt a little tingly for a few moments. He doesn t have any specific illnesses. He did have an ulcer when he was about 8 or 9 but that has not been an ongoing problem

Hello, Thanks for the query.
Excess intake of alcohol can cause severe irritation of stomach mucosa, which can lead to gastritis as well some bleeding occasionally. Since he has had h/o peptic ulcer, it very essential for him to either completely abstain from alcohol or drink in very moderation (not more than 60 to 90 ml). If he again indulges in alcohol, similar episode can occur. For next few week should avoid it totally and take fairly bland diet. Also use a drug like Omeprazole daily to reduce gastric irritation and stomach acid. Thanks.
