What Causes Vomiting Of Blood In A Breast Cancer Patient?

My grandma has breast cancer, im not sure what stage and she isnt currently getting treatment. The other day she vomitted blood (bright red im assuming because she thought it was from kool-aid she drank). This occurred a few times in one day. After a couple days it happened again. What does this mean? Has the cancer spread?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Of course, hematemesis (vomiting with blood) is very rare in cases of metastatic breast cancer. However, cases are on record where the metastasis to lower esophagus has caused symptoms of hematemesis. However, to be cautious an upper gastro intestinal tract endoscopy in such cases should be done to rule out any pathology of upper gastro intestinal tract like infections, ulcerations or growth etc.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
