What Causes Vomiting And Bleeding Through Rectum?

Hi my name is Carmen.. My grandmother has been coughing blood for about 3years. Just yesterday she was taken to the hospital for vomiting and bleeding through the rectum. She passed out, and woke up in the hospital. Now she doesn't remember most of the family. She's very weak, blood pressure is very low. She has lost a lot of blood to the point that the doctors are giving her a blood transfusion. She lives in Puerto Rico,and doctors work very slow there. Please tell me what you think it is... because at this point we are all worry.

Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history related to your Grandmother, coughing blood for years, now bout of large bleeding from vomiting and rectum. She is on blood transfusion and is at the moment admitted.
We have to find the cause:
Why is she bleeding- is it due to bleeding disorder since the bleeding is from different sites.
Ulcer in teh stomach or the intestinal tract.
This can be found by upper GI endoscopy and colonoscopy.
CT scan scan of the abdomen with arteriography studies to find the possible
site of leakage.
Once the diagnosis is made, we can plan the proper treatment.
