What Causes Vomiting After Waking Up?

I ate bread & carrot cake on Sunday, on Monday I woke up dizzy & vomited what little I ate(apple sauce, bananas) Today on Tuesday, I am still dizzy, and feel like throwing up, I have only had apple sauce today. Could this be diabetes or high cholesterol, or what??? I cannot function this way....And NO I am not pregnant.Thank you.

Hi,Welcome to Healthcaremagic.
I can understand the discomfort you are in. I would like to explain you that the symptoms which You mentioned are a single episode of vomiting and nausea since then. Nausea and vomiting can be caused by many conditions ranging from common and not so serious food poisoning, gastritis, emotional stress to more serious intestinal ,kidney, brain , ear diseases and even uncontrolled diabetes could be a cause.
As you have mentioned only two day history and no other associated complaint, I think its mostly due to food poisoning which means that probably some bacteria has entered your digestive system and has caused this disturbance. This is usually not a very serious condition and usually resolves in 4-5 days .If I were your treating doctor I would have advised you 1)Plenty of oral fluids
2)Physical rest with good sleep
3)avoiding heavy meals and to take more liquid or semi solid healthy diet as tolerated more of vegetables and fruits without oil.
4)Tablet Ondansetron 4mg thrice a day to reduce your nausea and vomiting.
5)Tablets containing probiotics such as Lactobacillus which are bacteria beneficial to intestines.
As You mentioned a doubt regarding the Diabetes and High cholesterol being the cause, uncontrolled diabetes can cause vomiting but high blood cholesterol is not a cause(even though few studies do mention a relation its not a presenting feature of high cholesterol).Diabetes should be thought of if you are having history of more thirst, more hunger ,increased frequency of urination, family history but could be asymptomatic also. I suggest consulting your general practitioner who would recommend blood investigations to check your fasting and post lunch blood levels and Hba1c levels which show your 3 month levels to rule out diabetes. He will order blood cholesterol levels if there are indications for that such as obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure etc.
If you have persistent symptoms it is advised that You see your Doctor immediately. Hope this will help You. Thank You.
