What Causes Vomiting After Giving Azithromycin For Ear Infection In An Infant?

Hello, 8 month old baby just diagnosed with double ear infection. Prescribed 3 days of liquid azithromycin. Attempted twice to administer 1sr dose this afternoon and evening, he vomited within 3 minutes each time. Any suggestions of how I can get him to keep it down?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that your son is intolerant to antibiotic Azithromycin and vomiting is a side effect of the same..
In case if the medicine will be immediately vomited out, the effect of it will wean off and it will lead to persistence of infection..
I would suggest you to consult his treating physician soon and get him evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like blood tests can help in diagnosis..
You can be advised alternate antibiotics like Amoxicillin along with antibiotic ear drops for relief from infection..
You should also give him a proper diet with plenty of fluids and also give sufficient rest..
Limit water exposure to ears..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
