What Causes Vomiting After Eating While Suffering From Acid Reflux?

I have bad acid reflux and had a scope to confirm no hiatel hernia. However, after my last few flights for work, I ve had dinner and then vommitted all night long in to the next morning. Could I have a weak hiatal hernia impacted by the change in pressure. Only happens on the flight to work, not on the return flight home. Any ideas?

Hi,

In your case, there may be 2 reasons for your symptoms.
1- May be work related anxiety, is on the back seat of all this. As it is thought, that any stress or anxiety may increase acid production and hence, symptoms of acid reflux disease like vomiting, heart burn etc. Though this relationship has not been conclusively proved, still there seems some consensus on this relationship among medical fraternity.
2- While going to work, you might have taken heavy meals. Increased stomach pressure may increase the acid production and vomiting.
Therefore, in my opinion, do not take a heavy meal before or during the flight. You may also need some anxiolytic to cope up with the stress factor, if any.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
