What Causes Voice Hoarseness, Dry Cough And Headache?

It started out about three days ago. It was time for me to go to bed, and so i did, but i woke up about an hour later with a really itchy throat. So I told my parents, took an allergy pill and went back to bed. After that i slept well, but when i woke up, my throat was killing me, and i could barely talk and no sound came out when i tried to sing or scream, AND, my terrible dry cough came back. Now, a day later, it s gotten worse, i can talk less, am coughing more, and have a headache and stuffy/runny nose. The itchiness found in my throat before is gone and replaced with pain. My voice has never been like this for so long before. What s wrong with me?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have voice hoarseness, dry cough and headache symptoms which are pointing towards upper respiratory tract infection , which can be caused by bacterial or viral infection. I t could be due to laryngitis which leads to inflammation of vocal cards. I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist for proper examination . Doctor may order test like viral culture test , throat swab test and blood test to confirm the diagnosis and rule out causes. you should go for get laryngoscopy as well. Doctor may prescribe anti bacterial amoxicillin or anti viral acyclovir depending upon the diagnosis along with decongestants . For now continue doing gargles and drink one spoon of honey mix with glass of lukewarm water. You should take steam inhalation along with vaporizers. Avoid hot, sharp , spicy food.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
