What Causes Vaginal Spotting During Menopause?

hi, i am 60 years old, I had my last period about 9 or 10 yrs ago. Just this week I have started to spot blood occasionally and yesterday it got a bit more like a lite period, definitely blood, bright red, no brown. I am currently under a tremendous amount of stress so I am wondering if this could be the cause. I am going to try to see a doctor although I don t have one and it is very hard to get into a walk in at this time here in Kelowna but I just thought maybe I could get some input while I wait.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear
I understand your concern
Vaginal spotting and period is not normal during menopause.
It could be due to excessive stress, hormonal imbalance, cervix and endometrial dysplasia, adenomyosis.
If problem persists then I would suggest to consult gynecologist and undergo vaginal examination, reproductive hormone analysis, USG scan, PAP smear, endometrial biopsy to rule out cause
Specific treatment depend on cause
Drug like progesterone will help youe
Avoid stress, take healthy diet, drink plenty of water, do regular exercise and maintain proper pelvic hygiene
Hope this may help you
Best regards
Dr. Sagar
