What Causes Vaginal Spotting After A Dilation And Curettage Procedure?

Had a D and C 12 days ago. Not for miscarriage. Abnormal bleeding and polyps. No cancer found. Had light bleeding first 4 days then started getting darker red still only used one pad daily. I was due for period today. Bleeding started getting more heavy yesterday changing pad about every 2-3 hours. Seems like starte of period. Is it normal to go ahead and get period after the surgery on time? Just worried its possibly not my period and something gone wrong.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

It is not unusual to get heavy bleeding after a dilatation and curettage procedure and since your periods were due it may have aggravated your bleeding. I would advise you to wait for a day or two and see if the bleeding reduces , otherwise you should consult your gynaecologist. For time being you can take Tab Tranexemic acid to control the heavy flow.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nazma.amman
