What Causes Vaginal Itching?

I have been very itchy in my vaginal area, both the opening and the inner most labia. I have been prone to discomfort when I am bathing and washing the area as I do normally with soap and water. I took a look and my clitoris seems darker on towards the bottom right side and very red in the center almost as if I am menstruating.
Have been itching for 2-3 days. Had intercourse for the first time in 3 months with a safe former partner. What is causing these sensations?

Hello,

According to your symptoms the possible causes of your problem are:

-Usually the external genitalia should not be washed with the soap with alkaline pH, because the vaginal pH will be acidic. Acidic pH helps in the growth of local bacteria that will maintain the local health.

- Pelvic infection.

-Allergy to local hygiene products, sanitary pads, inner garments, etc. The measures that can possibly help you are:

-Using a vaginal wash with acidic pH between 3.5 to 4.5 instead of soap and water.

-Avoiding tight inner garments

-Keeping the genital area dry as much as possible

-If any product leading to allergy is diagnosed better to avoid that.

-If the problem still persists, better to consult your gynecologist once, get examined and take treatment accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Sree Gouri SR
