What Causes Vaginal Discharge During Menopause?

Hello, I am a 48 year old female experiencing menopause. I always have had yearly pap smears and my results were always normal. I have not been to a Gyn Dr. in the last year because I lost my health insurance but this weekend I was showering and large clumps of gray sand like vaginal discharge came out. this has never happened to me and I am scared. Can you tell me if you have ever treated any woman with my experience? So embarrassed. Thank you .

Pathologist and Microbiologist 's  Response
Hello,

Vaginal discharge which appears like grey and is not usual. Are you experiencing symptoms of pruritis or vaginal bleeding also?

I suggest you consult your gynaecologist for clinical assessment and an ultrasound of pelvic organs to assess the status of the uterus and endometrial lining.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
