What Causes Vaginal Bleeding While On Birth Control Patches?

Hi I am on birth control (patches) I started about a month ago and everything has been fine sense. Last week i skipped patch free week because i didn’t want the period but then i also didn’t pick up my prescription on the day i suppose to change my patch i received my patches a day later. I applied my patch that day i received ny prescription (saturday) today is now sunday and i have a patch on and I am bleeding. Should I remove the patch and apply a new one after my period or continue to keep the patch on???

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI,
Thanks for the query. I understand your concern.
You wanted to skip patch free week ( to avoid menses ) but forgor to change the patch... the old patch did not suply hormones these days & you had nearly 2-3 hormone free days... this lead to withdrawal of hormone from body causing bleeding.
In such a case it is better to allow the bleeding to continue & wear a new (first week ) patch on 5th day of bleeding to start a new cycle.
Thanks.
