General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and welcome.

With age comes health issues, and in older females there is a risk for numerous problems. I would first like to rule out any structural abnormalities using the ultrasound as her doctor has advised, and only then look into other causes like a hormonal imbalance. Colposcopy + punch biopsy can also be considered if at all a pap smear returns abnormal results, and thus I would request you to be as patient as possible.

In most cases it is just a hormonal imbalance, but as the bleeding has been present for quite some time now, it would be best to be as elaborate as possible in evaluating her.

Best wishes.
