What Causes Vaginal Bleeding During Pregnancy?

Hi,

I'm 33 weeks pregnant with our first baby. two days back while me and my partner was making love I suddnley started bleeding for the first time during my pregnancy. I rushed to the hospital they checked me and the baby and everything was fine. What can the reason be for me to bleed like that and should I be concerned more about it?

Hallow, I have read your history and have understood the problem.

Vaginal bleeding during pregnancy is not to be taken lightly. It was very wise on your part to report to the Hospital immediately.

You were checked at the hospital - how? Was ultrasonography done? Was placenta praevia ruled out? Who did the checking, an Obstetrician or General Physician? You need to be examined and investigated by a Consultant Obstetrician. I would advise you to get admitted in the hospital.

Your history suggests that the underlying cause could be related to the placenta. If the placenta is in the lower segment of the uterus (Placenta praevia) there is always a possibility of repeated bleeding which could be alarming. It has to be ruled out by ultrasonography.

If placental cause is ruled out, then the mouth of the uterus (cervix) has to be inspected for any lesion on it which is known to bleed after the sexual intercourse.

I hope I have warned you sufficiently to report to the Obstetrician and you will act accordingly. Till that be restricted to the bed.
