What Causes Vaginal Bleeding During Intercourse?

Is it abnormal to bleed during sex on birth control ? I have been on birth control for about 3 years and switched from nuva ring to Larin Fe 8 months ago. (Because of an irritated cervix) I have had mild spotting now and again but bled a decent amount during intecourse tonight that I did not notice until finished. I then noticed mild cramps as well for a few minutes after. Also I m never late taking a pill. Possible reasons ?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Bleeding after sex often indicates a cause in the cervix, such as a cervical polyp or cervicitis, either due to an infection or irritation.

But especially if you haven't had a Pap smear done recently, cervical cancer is one cause we want to make sure you don't have with bleeding after sex.

So I would recommend seeing your doctor to get an exam and hopefully finding the cause of this bleeding, and hopefully, it can be easily treated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Aaron Branch, General & Family Physician
