Hello,
Welcome to Healthcare Magic.
I have read your question fully and understand your concerns.
I am assuming that you are past your
menopause. During menopause, the ovaries stop producing the female hormones oestrogen and
progesterone. Due to lack of these hormones, the vaginal wall becomes thin and atrophic; there would also be
vaginal dryness due to less lubrication. So, when you had intercourse (after so many years), due to the action of intercourse and lack of lubrication, the thin vaginal wall started to bleed. I feel this is the likely cause of your vaginal bleeding.
Having said the above, all post –menopausal women who have vaginal bleeding should be assessed by the doctor as soon as possible. The likely cause of your vaginal bleeding would be
vaginal atrophy due to
hormone deficiency. But post-menopausal vaginal bleeding could be due to other sinister causes like cancer in a small minority of patients. Hence to rule these out I would advise you to see your doctor as soon as possible.
I don’t want to scare you and you to become alarmed, but I cannot falsely reassure you either.
If you have been found to have vaginal atrophy by your doctor, your doctor can prescribe you some vaginal HRT (
hormone replacement therapy) which comes as a cream or vaginal tablet which you would insert into your vagina. This will help you. In addition you can also use simple
K-Y Jelly as a lubricant during intercourse.
I hope this answer has helped you.
Thank you
Regards
